Richardson County commissioners voted Wednesday to accept a revised bid from Fuxa Enterprises LLC to haul road rock from the Whetrock Quarry in Murray to a stockpile in the Dawson area, the county reported.
contract change and cost
The company requested an adjustment to the original hauling rate of $9.93 per ton, seeking an increase to $12.62 per ton to reflect changing conditions and a delayed project schedule. County materials show the original contract would have cost about $74,500 in hauling fees; the revised rate raises the hauling total to $94,650, an increase of $20,175.
- Quarry: Whetrock Quarry, Murray, Nebraska
- Hauler: Fuxa Enterprises LLC
- Original rate: $9.93 per ton
- Revised rate: $12.62 per ton
- Original hauling cost: ~$74,500
- Revised hauling cost: $94,650 (increase $20,175)
County Highway Superintendent Steve Darveau Jr. presented the request for the change, citing limited availability of rock at the Whetrock Quarry and pressures from a delayed schedule, according to meeting materials. Commissioners voted to accept the revised bid.
road reclassification under consideration
Darveau also recommended reclassifying 642 Boulevard — the segment between 705 Road and 703 Trail southwest of Salem — to a minimum maintenance road. The board scheduled consideration of the superintendent’s report for its Oct. 28 meeting.
A minimum maintenance designation typically reduces winter and routine upkeep obligations and shifts responsibility for full repairs to adjacent property owners or special assessments, depending on county policy. Commissioners did not take final action on the road reclassification at the Wednesday meeting.
next steps
- The board will revisit the 642 Boulevard reclassification during its Oct. 28 meeting.
- The hauling contract with Fuxa Enterprises will proceed under the accepted revised rate.
Meeting minutes and the highway superintendent’s written recommendation are part of the county record and available through the Richardson County clerk’s office.
