Sarpy County has closed a section of Schram Road as construction advances on a broader road and infrastructure project near 156th Street and Capehart Road in the Papillion area.

The closure began Tuesday, Oct. 27, between 156th and 168th streets. County officials described the work as part of the larger 156th Street and Capehart Road development project, which is being built alongside continued commercial and residential growth in the area.

Construction tied to expanding development

The road work is taking place near data centers and other development projects on the edge of Papillion. Jim Warren, the Sarpy County District 5 commissioner, said the county’s approach is to extend roads into developing areas before additional construction follows.

“We develop out an area of roads, and then the builders follow,” Warren said.

The current construction on Schram Road is expected to continue through fall 2027. The project is part of the county’s ongoing effort to expand the road network serving the 156th Street and Capehart Road area as new development is built around it.

The closure affects access to Bark Park Omaha, a private dog park located along Schram Road. The business remains open, and its owner, TJ Heinert, said customers can continue reaching the property while construction is underway.

“We know that it’s going to benefit us in the long term, and we’re excited about it,” Heinert said. “So, a little disruption to get a paved road out here and be able to help with that is well worth it.”

Heinert said a sign near the road barricade directs customers to continue toward the park. He opened the facility as a private option for dog owners and recently expanded the business to Elkhorn.

The Schram Road work is one part of the county’s larger infrastructure buildout in the area. Information about the 156th Street and Capehart Road project is available through Sarpy County’s Connect Sarpy project website.
