U.S. Rep. Mike Flood (R-Neb.) joined Rep. Troy Carter (D-La.) in introducing the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Information Act, a bipartisan bill that would require the Energy Information Administration to include sustainable aviation fuel, or SAF, in its publicly published data sets.

The legislation directs the EIA to collect and publish data on SAF production, consumption, feedstocks and trade to give policymakers, producers and investors a clearer picture of how the fuel is developing nationally, Flood’s office said. Flood said the move would create greater transparency for a growing market that intersects with Nebraska agriculture.

Nebraska is the nation’s second-largest producer of biofuels, and several farm and industry groups expressed support for the measure. Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor called the bill “a simple step to help the industry track its progress and identify investment opportunities,” according to Flood’s office. Alison Graab, executive director of the SAF Coalition, said the information updates would provide “crucial insights to scale up SAF nationally.”

Other supporters cited by Flood included National Corn Growers Association President Harold Wolfe, who said the bill would help ensure U.S. farmers are credited in the new market, and Jared Mullendore of the Renewable Fuels Association, who said the data would help producers and users make informed decisions.

who co-sponsored and who supports it

  • Flood joined lead sponsor Rep. Troy Carter (D-La.) in filing the bill.
  • Five other House members signed on as co-sponsors, including Reps. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) and Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.).
  • Industry backers cited by Flood’s office include Growth Energy, the SAF Coalition, the National Corn Growers Association and the Renewable Fuels Association.

The bill aims to incorporate SAF into EIA’s routine statistical publications so that market participants can track production, feedstock use and distribution. Flood’s office said the change would give stakeholders more clarity on development and investment opportunities as SAF production expands.

As introduced, the measure would change EIA reporting requirements; the bill must advance through House committees and, if approved by the House, the Senate and the president before becoming law.
